okay. i think it is such a waste that tru calling was eventually canned by fox networks. and what’s worst no other network wants to take tru calling. not evern UPN the tv network that has ANTM under their belt. what’s more, i am just starting to watch it on cable and channel 5 has just ended its run of the first season not too long ago. i also chanced upon the complete first season dvd box set of tru calling at HMV. Hm. i am thinking i should get it. hope the second season which has only 6 episodes comes.

unable to discern my incessant rambling?

well, tru calling is a show about a girl, tru (played bythe incomparable eliza dushku). she has a special gift and that is she is able to relieve days. but she does not determine the day she is going to relive. instead it is dead corpses that help her determine the days she would be reliving. with a simple but oft tad freaky “help me”, the day is rewound. and she goes about helping the dead that are not meant to die, stay alive. at the same time with this gifts comes grave responsibility. she has her crumbling family to save and her own social life to think and cope with. will she be able to do everything in one day?

my two cents worth.

the concept of the show is a tad bit familiar in my opnion. when i watch it, it somehow reminds me of the early edition. remember that show. it was about this guy who gets the paper the day before. but enought about that. tru calling is quite the entertaining show. some of the episodes are really mind boggling and sets you thinking. but some of them can be very much predicted. but maybe i’m a litte bias in my review. the show has eliza dushku. and i think she looks great in the show. my first encounter of eliza was in buffy, she played faith remember? and you could say i was drawn to her. after that i saw her in bring it on. and i noticed her. but after that movie she never really made anything until tru calling. and i am very happy that she is in tru calling. i could not think of anyone better than her to play tru. there’s that something about her. but too bad it has been canned.

what does all this prove?

the rising challenge in sustaining televison show viewership. its not about the quality anymore its all about how much you bring in for the network. fox was very indecisive about tru calling. they played around with its timeslots and the idea about canning the second season whilst still in production. you see tru calling is what i call a neither here nor there kinda show. it did not really perform but sustained its own niche audience. this i feel was achieved due to fox’s placing of tru calling right after the OC. which by no surprise has a HUGE following. so in order to ride in the success of the OC, fox decides to put another OC-esque kinda show, North Shore, and canned tru calling. North Shore fyi is i think about teenage life too. they did this to create a belt of teen soap opera that’ll attract more viewership and increase the buzz towards North Shore. but the last i read, North Shore wasn’t really performing. and tru calling was canned. so yup. they have no intentions what so ever to revive tru calling. and the complete second season should be “the incomplete second season”.

but oh well many shows are either canned by networks or lose lustre after a few seasons.
