they twist and twist until they are satisfied. once again departure from freedom given back for a minimal period of time is somewhat bittersweet. but at least this weekend was spent very fruitfully. so that i am satisfied and more a willing person to stash my bag of freedom to one corner.

it was an ironic euphoric high but i felt it was well deserved. this is because you think that you might not get it back once you are tied down but you do. it was nice just meeting up and doing as much catching up as much as possible. but next week is catching up proper. dinner and talk. period. the trick is just being lifted up by the thoughts of upcoming events of next week.

so thank yous are in order. to the people who have made this weekend a great weekend. you have made my week just as how i found out about the band the boy least likely to. so thank you for making this weekend extra special.

the muscles are still pretty much very achy. but there is no time to recuperate.

once again swift arrival comes to play when you start to think that your week would go on by slowly. here i am again in the comforts of familiar settings. the week passed by with alot of mind play. and somehow high end contorted twisted gutted fashion stuck to my head for the remainder of the week.

i kept picturing myself being done with all this obligations and enjoying the freedom of freedom. roaming and easing around. trying to get by. and fashion would be apart of this. the fashion would be done through thorough research and observation. its not so much skill but experience. fashion itself draws a fine line between being high-end fashion, contorted fashion, twisted fashion and gutted fashion. sometimes its all rolled into one ball. designers push their limits and it comes of as unpleasantly soothing to the eye and scarily successful.

anyways i rant. the above picture above is of siobhan donaghy. her return is highly anticipated. so watch this space for more info. its from her latest photo shoot for her album. thats all.

reluctant departure

March 19, 2006

the time has come once again to say goodbye. its back to pure regimentation, freedom rendered. there is that gnawing feeling of not wanting to go. but the dread will somehow eat you up. all you’ve gotta do is suck up and just leave. goodbye.

shaven bare out of soul

March 18, 2006

much has been missed, much has been missed. but my leaving was just a mere 4 days plus but i feel like it has been a month or so. i am very sure you people would know what i am talkin about. my absence from freedom that i have every right to has been stashed away indefinitely. all i am allowed is just the weekends, then its back to pure regimentation.

i ain’t complainin it is just my obligation that i feel so “inclined” to oblige. anyways, i get by days by putting songs and words into my head. and whispering under my breath. it may seem abit schizo, but that is how i get by. friends made have been mediocre. mental stimulation is quite hard to achieve. intellectual is almost non-existent. it is just one P.E lesson that never ends.

shaven bare out of soul is just a pending title that has explanation as to how i feel about this whole thing. another title or name that has stuck to my brain permanently like a tattoo of sorts is feat party. part in honour of the surprise party that was thrown for me. i like that two words together, and i do not know why. tell me why.

music wise, not much can be said as to what i am listening to, due to deprivation of it. but i would recommend skye. ex lead singer of morcheeba. she has left morcheeba and has struck out on her own. her album is slow mid-tempo her voice is still the same. its down tempo light electronic. part dreamy and self reflective. its definitely an album for the soul and sensous.

feast party

March 12, 2006

i feel like i should be giving out thank you cards. but i shall refrain from the cheesy. but okay i admit it was a blast. speculations were rife but i was still caught off guard. and i was and is still now truly surprised.

so thank you, thank you and thank you.

i would have never guessed that it would be like this. ya’ll are such good “cover-uppers”.

when you walk into a magazine stand not intending to find what you wanted but do anyway. that is gold to me.

the music. brazilian girls though sounds like a girl group, are actually a group of mixed personalities. that is reflected in their music. you could say they are electronic electic with a mix of indie alternative with synth rhythms. their songs are actually runway worthy. so do check them out.

before i sift through blogs and find inspiration for my next post, i just had to get this down. still reeling from the fact that the academy could pull off such stunts. the theme for the night was back to the glamour and that it was. the whole event was stylishly carried out through out the whole evening with the stars decked out in their best gowns and monotonous but honourable suits. the oscars this year i would say, is nothing short of one of the best oscars. maybe it was the films that made this year’s oscars special to me.

now to the awards. its no surprise that there would be some “oohs or aahs” and i mean this intonations comes with the surprise factor. some awardees were predictable but some were downright shocking but very much speculated. for instance, reese whitherspoon in the best actress category. now i am not saying i did not like reese whitherspoon in walk the line, she has made a very different impression upon me in that movie. but her performance was not one that was oscar-worthy. i stress once again these are all in my opinion. i had expected that felicity huffman to win in this category after her total transformation as a transexual in transamerica. this brings me to the next topic of discussion.

the american obsession with the all american sweetheart. reese whitherspoon playing june carter cash was probably one of the best choices made by the movie producers. cos in a way, reese whitherspoon was the all american sweetheart of the movies. starring in wholesome roles as those in, legally blonde and sweet home alabama. by playing such roles, they stamped her with the all american sweetheart label. not knowing much about june carter cash but hearing of her through articles, june carter cash was the all american sweetheart in the country music scene. and we all know, them americans love their country music.

therefore though reese whitherspoon winning the oscars did somehow show that the panel of judges whom decides who would win, are those who are true to their american roots. as in honouring the fact that they cannot pass up an all american sweetheart. even before the oscars’ were given many americans voted that joaquin phoenix and reese were to win the best actor and actresss category respectively. which can be said for reese but not for joaquin. about fifty percent thought that reese should win, just a tidbit. well speaking as an asian quite influenced by the american culture, i would never understand the concept of the all american sweetheart. but it does show how american are patriotic to their roots. and this for an asian is heartwarming and inspiring, cos half the time i do not know where my roots are.

i for one had expected felicity huffman’s name to be read out by jamie foxx but was left in awe. felicity huffman is one of the new crop of actresses i have newfound respect for. her acting is so versatile in both movie and television that you can discern one from the other. when she is playing lynette scavo, she is lynette, wholeheartedly. but when the time came for her to be bree osbourne the tragic transexual, she totally transform herself, puts her best foot forward in the character and that shows how good she is. its a pity that the academy undermined such great acting feat and decided to go with the patriotism of their roots. its hard to have worked so hard and amass to nothing. oh well, next year then, felicity huffman.

brokeback mountain. of all 8 noms, they were only awarded for their soundtrack, screenplay and best director. for which ang lee won. i can just say that finally!! ang lee wins best director. it breathes new life into the sea of black and white. in the acting catergory i felt the stars of brokeback, namely, heath ledger, jake gyllenhaal and michelle williams were overshadowed by much better and indepth performances by philip seymour huffman of capote (to which i have decided to watch, so ping keep yourself free!!), george clooney of syrianna and rachel weisz of the constant garderner. i did not watch the constant garderner but i felt that best supporting should have gone to michelle williams. but oh wells, next year then michelle, you are the one to watch.

crash crash CRASH! yes, perhaps the greatest upset or should i say surprise of the evening was best picture going to crash. there were speculation that crash might steal the show and these speculations were made by local publications (gasp!). and win they did. i could not be more surprised. but it was a good film, it really encased all the issues other films were not willing to tackle full head on. and it also gave ryan philippe something to celebrate and not just bask in the glory of his wife’s truimph. so double whammy to ryan and reese’s family. but prior to the oscars, crash dvds were given out to the panel in hope that it might stand a chance. so that might be the trick after all.

well, the stars are probably at the governers’ ball right now enjoying the oscar afterparty. for some its cause for celebration but for some, losing might be hard to handle but they just don’t show it on tv, come on they are actors for a reason.

there not many fashion letdowns for this year’s oscars. everyone was fitfully glamorous. if there was any, it should come from some unknown behind-the-scenes personnel. that was not shown on tv. some fashion marvels were, michelle williams, felicity huffman (as above), sandra bullock and jessica alba.

that concludes my rants on the oscars. hope it did not bore you. cos when i rant, i rant.

this dream occured a few days back, but i cannot get it out of my mind. it might be my watching too much of this or last years’ greatest gift to television medical drama, grey’s anatomy. but as we all know, grey’s had just landed on singapore shores, but i have been hooked ever since. i maybe watching it in advance through ways unscrupulous but i ain’t got much time on hand. so grey’s anatomy stars sandra oh of sideways fame. she is this great asian (emphasis on asian) starlet that has risen wonderfully in the movie and tv arena.

okay the dream has nothing to do with any sexual inneundos. it was a rather intellectual dream. intellectual in the sense that we had a conversation. at some dingy bookstore with unexpectedly, ping, my fellow grey’s buff. the oh, sandra i mean, just popped out of the bookshelves in her scrubs and all (this meaning her character’s getup). she was holding on to some diet pills and a bag of chips. but we had a great conversation. go figure.

transamerica. was a good movie. but seriously, i do not know what to think of the film. i felt that it felt like a hallmark movie with more grit and grime. but the performances on the show was quite the eye opener. no wonder it was slapped with a r21 rating.

music wise, bird york. take a listen to her song in the deep from the crash soundtrack. you would know why.

thats all.
