Awhile

March 5, 2010

Oh my! It has been awhile. Pardon me for the long absence and overdue greetings:

Happy New Year

Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Okay now that that’s out of the way, let’s focus on more important things. Marina and the Diamond’s The Family Jewels finally dropped a week back, and what can I say, it is quite a riot of an album.

Whimsical is Marina Diamandis she reminds me of a rock Bjork somehow, the album does not skip a beat and is rambunctious in production and poetic in lyrics. Standout track for me is 2nd single Mowgli’s Road which has a very interesting video to it as well:

As with the treatment for I’m Not A Robot, Marina & The Diamonds makes very interesting videos. With paper-hands and legs to her body Mowgli’s Road stands out.

It is good that tracks on this album are short, each clocking at least 3mins and over. With Numb clocking at 4mins17secs easily the longest track of the whole album. Normally I would gripe that this shows lack of production and no effort on a reasonable album, but I will let this one slide because Marina & The Diamonds should be taken in doses. Too much would be an overkill.

That said, you could easily sit through the whole album and not get bored, I’m Not A Robot provides for a very good vent on a relationship while Mowgli’s Road quirkiness is an added perk to a dull day her theatrical singing is a breathe of fresh welcomed air.

I do hope Marina has another album install for her, it would be interesting to see what she comes up with in the future.

4/5.

I’m gonna take another dive into The Family Jewels.
