fucking validate!

March 30, 2008

we all need a validation of a certain sort every now and then. you cannot just go on with your life not knowing what that validation entailed. thats why you have people around you, be it your friends family or colleagues.

if that certain validation is not met, you would crumble. not openly, but internally. i know i would. thats why you go for the interviews and try your hardest. because getting through eventually would be a huge validation.

or you attend a party and try to make a good impression but it knocks you over completely the next day. cos a certain sort of validation was not met. or maybe hyper-sensitiveness is just playing games.

we validate everyday, unbeknown st. we need to have our passports validated when we go overseas. we have to validate parking coupons each time we park our cars if not it will be forfeited. even shopping coupons need to be validated, if not you can use it more than once.

i really do not know, i wish i had a metal heart sometimes. but the fact is we do not. so fucking validate every now and then!

postmortem

March 29, 2008

heady strobe lights, pulsates, sporadic and hypnotizes. sending a sort of shock wave down the spine as body grooves to the music. with the influence of champagne and gin plus the illusion of “rabbits” behind a white screen. you get a perfect formula for idiotic fun and embarrassment.

ha ha ha. lets take this few minutes to properly laugh at last night’s shenanigans please. after all its good to have a few laughs here and there. in honor of things going bust, of straight love being overrated and jobs not acoming. but is there a sort of “postmortem” to such nights?

well when alcohol is induced, verbal vomit is inevitable. and sometimes things said does not necessarily have been through considerable thought process. and the worst part is you are not aware of stuff until the next morning. hence the “postmortem” reference. when the very next morning hits, you go, “oh shit, what happened the night before”.

sex might have been involved, if you wake up next to someone unknown. and that is stating the obvious. or you had unconsciously taken that single stick of smoke and had took into your lungs so hungrily, only to realize that you do not smoke anymore. many things can be accounted for during the entire night. but none to your knowing whatsoever.

and the next morning you are stuck with the recounting of what happened the night before. like a “postmortem” of sorts, you stick and probe into charred remains and investigate. and you realize that you were such a colossal fool! but like a postmortem, you can only get answers and not change facts or situations.

the only way, is to close the drawer to which your night is pegged to and not open it again. let it join your expanding vault of such nights and situations. and of course try your hardest to rectify situations gone wrong and offer apologies profusely. and only have photos to remind you of what fools you had been.

ha ha ha… “postmortem” ends here.

the importance of…

March 25, 2008

the second language.

today was interesting. i learnt the fact that i had a bigger problem with the chinese language then i had expected. the fact is, though singapore is predominantly chinese most of us do not speak our native, chinese language. instead we speak, singlish. a confusing mix of British-esque English and the mixture of the four languages spoken here.

i was asked to read a passage of chinese text. the moment that passage was set before my eyes, i panicked. the last i had to read a chinese passage in front of someone was when i was taking the O’ Level Examination. and that i managed to scrap through. but not this one. not only had i no clue as to what the passage was about, i misread, actually no, i skipped most of the words on it.

by the end of the passage i was red with embarrassment and had sympathy for the interviewer. not only had made a total fool of myself but i had put the interviewer into much agony. you would think that was it. but hell no. next came “ad hoc translation”, which i thought i would fare better. but to my dismay.

not only had i loosely translated the whole text that was read to me. even worse, i had mistranslated some words. this was the worst interview i had been in. and by the end of it i was relieved it was over. and walked away with much dismay but could not stop laughing at myself on the inside.

i had questioned myself over and over whilst on the journey home. why is it relevant that we speak proper chinese in a predominantly english country? then it dawned, that china is a fucking huge nation. and to have them understand basic english would be an uphill challenge that is ongoing. so hence, the importance of the second language.

fact of the matter is, no one can truly say, that they have control over their lives and said future. no matter how much order and insurance we put into our said lives, we might just be fucked over by, unfortunate circumstances.

a strong foothold. thats what we all want. something to hold on to so that when the storm comes we will be warm and well protected. but when it pours, it pours. wet clothes get soaked and rain would still get under our skin.

typing nonsensical humor and and senseless philosophies is what i enjoy doing. add in random photography:

and you get a perfect formula. no?

okay “musical morse code” for you guys:

muddy minutes

March 18, 2008

i can’t stop listening to duffy. mercy mercy mercy…

she is a great upcoming artist who has already top the charts in her native UK. to put in simply, a white amy winehouse without the drug problem. i keep thinking that whenever i listen to her. but she definitely has her own sound. not so much soul but a blend of atmospheric pop, groovy beats and more emotions.

i guess she will be making inroads around the world soon enough. but i’m not sure whether she’ll have the same following as her other UK singer in the US. i’d rather she not. cos she is Duffy.

they want models.

March 16, 2008

mediocrity is not an option. in their eyes, all they want is “perfection”. but don’t they know that there is no such thing as perfection? mediocrity is all around. mediocrity is what boosts society.

time and time and time again, doors were shut. expectations were met but none made an impact on them. whatever happened to fair chances? wait, they did give fair chance. but at the end of it all, they want models.

when their main attraction is of the opposite sex. it just does not make sense. no sense at all. just to be able to look good when, majority aboard are, mediocre. it just not make sense, no sense at all, they still want models.

please step back to reality. thank you.

fodder for your pleasure

March 13, 2008

sure its tough showing up everyday for work, looking like a doll. so to that i say, blast the music and go crazy at home in your under drawers. that ain’t no crime.

Today’s fodder comes in the form of Roisin Murphy. She has the earned the right not to have her past be associated with Moloko. So, this is a last time reminder. Having just released her second solo album entitled Overpowered, she has released three singles. It being Overpowered, Let Me Know and now, You Know Me Better.

Roisin, who posses lyrical smartness, has decided to go back to her dance roots for her second album. She also has the knack for making visually quirky videos. Having that experience from her Moloko days. Her previous two videos saw her in outrageous outfits in perfectly normal settings.

For You Know Me Better, crazy outfits still in check, she however dons them at the comforts of her own home. Essentially, You Know Me Better, is a break-up song. Hence the crying scene. But she seems to be playing out different characters with different outfits. But at the end of it all, she is somehow mopping over the breakup.

The video, is typically Roisin. But the outfits are less outrageous as the last two video. For this video i would say she has gone all “glam quirk”, which basically means a quirky sense of glam. Which makes for a refreshing take for a video.

With this song being a dance song, and not to have dancing in this video, is a little bit weird. But, the video does hold its own. On first watch it kind of leaves you feeling hollow and questioning the meaning of it all. But once it sets in and you have another watch, you’ll get what it means. So, watch and watch it again.

enjoy.

the drawing board.

March 8, 2008

back to the drawing board hoping that something appears without effort.

but obviously it takes effort to birth something out of pure will

okay, back to this drawing board. Lucy Spiller and gang is back for a second stab at tabloid mayhem and jabs at current stars. with a new design and additions to the cast, i can’t wait to see where this season takes us.

having seen the pre-air episodes one and two i can see that dirt is less dark and twisted as it was on the first season. the first season showed us the psychosis of her trusty photographer and friend, Don Konkey. which i truly enjoyed as a viewer. i feel that Don Konkey, played by Ian Hart is a true gem in the show.

with the second season, Lucy Spiller is in a way “humbled” by her stabbing incident. in the first episodes you see that somethings never change with Lucy. but at the same time she knows that she is somehow impeded by her wound injury.

the second season also brings about new characters. like new reporter for Lucy, Farber. he is the intelligent new fresh grad just off his stint with the LA Weekly. he has this kind of too-smart-for-tabloid mentality that brings new freshness to the show. and besides he is paired up with Willa. so that should bring about new chemistry in the show.

i feel that this season has the same kind of potential that the first one had. but it still has yet to show it. the first two pre-air went by quite slowly. i am still waiting for that punch, or that cliffhanger to keep me wanting to watch. but at least there is that development that Don is starting to feel “normal” and no longer has schizophrenic tendencies.

that shall make for good television.

tug and pull

March 3, 2008

with the advent of technology and the need for personal enjoyment for music, we seem to be forgetting the joys of a record disc. you know, them big ass discs where you need a record player to play on them? yeah i’m sure you know what i mean.

acquiring a record player is not as difficult as one might think. think of that street where they sell second-hand in working order goods. whats it called again? i can’t seem to think of the name now.

anyways, i’ve had a bulk of old records handed to me through my father’s friend. it consisted of old records from evergreen artists such has olivia newton-john and mantovani. and i found this, the soundtrack to Flashdance!

what a feeling!!!!

you remember that movie right? it was made way before i was born, but it is still relevant till today. what with the 80’s making waves in fashion for the longest time now. everyone is just looking to living like their parents did way back when.

and its been spinning out of my record player since then. nothing like good old 80’s disco music to get your blood pumping. go 80’s!
