magazine bullets

June 28, 2006

its okay to still a look from a magazine.

with such words of comfort, i start this blog entry. because, everyone is doing it and thats why magazines are there for a reason. but of course, stealing a look from a credible magazine is definitely forgivable. but stealing a look from a trashy magazine should be severely dealt with. there a no qualms, trashy magazines should remain where they are, the trash.

now i got introduced to modern amusement awhile ago through nylonguy (one the more credible mags around). modern amusement is, made famous by their infamous crow logo. i think i have mentioned them before in these lines. their brand is one that cashes in on simplicity and pure style. its suited for the young and the middle aged, thats where it draws the line. their shirts are decked out with simple crow logos and words that resonant the brand perfectly. their summer collection for this ‘06 can be described in one word: breezy. Breezy because of all the colours they have chosen to represent their summer collection. colours such as white, navy blue, grey and stripes. you can just imagine yourself fitted in one of their shirts (such as the above), with a simple blue jeans, comfortable sneakers and probably one of their cardigans (or as ping likes to put it “mandigans”) and you’ve got yourself a modern amusement look. so if you’re looking for something breezy, stylish and a tad bit chic try modern amusement.

of course, means of getting it would only be through the internet. sadly enough, a small country like singapore would not carry such a small, almost unheard of brand. they would rather bring brands that represent today’s pop culture, like harajuku lovers and junk food. no disrespect to them brands.

whereas such brands are loud, brash and a tad bit uncouth at times, these are the brands that are selling off the shelves like pancakes. more people are seen wearing such brands with prints that are outrageous enough to put the britney spears song to shame.

modern amusement can be said to draw inspiration from old time brands such as ralph lauren and maybe lacoste. but they all fall under the same umbrella of being simple yet very stylish. in other words, summer chic for all seasons. ‘cept, modern amusement is more tailored for the young and very outgoing while ralph lauren and lacoste are meant for all ages.

do not believe me? check it out yourself www.modernamusement.com

i think i have ranted enough and used the words “a tad bit” twice to many times. but i was brimming with excitement. now the brimming has been sipped up by this blog post.

what happens

June 18, 2006

this post is an inspired post.

somehow its hard to move forward with this post after that sentence. is it weird that somehow i do not know why i am even doing this. is this a method of allowing people in my life to see for themselves how i am doing. or just a way to gain a sort of paradoxical pride that makes me glow inside. i have addressed this issue a while back. and yet i am still here.

what happens when u actually lose credibility? i would say that it is mandatory that some people actually lose credibility in their lives. each day that moves on you are losing credibility. and its not that its a bad thing. everyone just somehow disappoints themselves every minute and hour. from credibility to disappointment. losing credibility actually leads to disappointment. and its just the little things that kind of leads to disappointment. for me its the minute details of everyday life that leads to wanton disappointments that i choose to either ignore completely or let it affect me the whole day. one would be the failure to actually uphold proper conversations. and the fact that my self confidence is a waning dance that is sometimes invigorated and most of the time a chokeful of insecurity. whats your daily disappointment?

moving on. my failed attempt of making freshly squeezed iced lemon tea. on a sunny day people lounging by the pool. incomes the freshly squeezed iced lemon tea. this iced lemon tea was bland in taste due to the not having of syrup and too strong on the lemon taste. so much for late night shopping and the concoction of the freshly squeezed iced lemon tea.

freshly squeezed ice lemon tea anyone?

okay the new issue of paper magazine is out and i’ve gotten my hands on it. interview was luckily still there but in tattered condition but i got it anyway. and the title of this blog serves as a shocking revelation that linds actually likes interview. i mean its surprising but who would not.

let’s sidetrack and talk about the wonder that is nelly furtado. besides getting a couple of good reads i also got the new nelly furtado album, loose. come on we all have out impulsive buys. and i was actually shocked to find out that she had actually switched record companies. from dreamworks records to geffen records. it explains alot. i felt while she was in dreamworks, she had alot of artistic freedom. but now that she is in geffen i feel like she was made to form into this mould, the mould of today’s music, which is being a hot r’n'b star.

let me explain. i was leafing through the album sleeve for loose, and i realised that she has not put in much production work and song writing credits for this album. which is sad because for folklore and hey nelly! she was credited with alot of song writing and production credit. which made the two albums more close to the heart. and made it more easily remembered. it also garnered her a grammy.

with loose, she looks like new r’n'b artist fresh from the discovery panel. i am not complainin, girl just wanna have fun. songs on it are very heavy in beat and danceable thanks to the production of timbaland. i would say that the album really delivers. but i can’t believe that nelly furtado has gone down this path. i used to have so much respect for the fact that she was one of the more quirky and original recording artist around. but i still want to see her live though.

at least she has stuck with her famous nelly furtado print. which kind of assures me that apart of her is still true to herself. just a small blip i noticed.

is it so wrong to want to go watch a movie by my lonesome self? using the word lonesome maybe a little to over-dramatic because the idea came to me. so i thought i would do just that after a whole lot of apprehension. but i had forgotten that school was out and the cinema theatre near my home was under renovations. so to my surprise, the place i had intended to watch the movie was packed to the brim. i turned on my heels and walked off a little peeved.

but all was not lost for i felt that the previous day’s watching of a movie made up for the one i was supposed to watch today. the movie that i had watched was great in all its production. it dealt with the common topic of love. kinda like a satire. but injected with sarcasm and drama. it was perfect for u got to see maggie gyllenhaal sing. she plays this really quirky character. kinda reminds me of a character milla jovovich played in a hallmark movie. so watch the movie called happy endings for maggie gyllenhaal, lisa kudrow and a whole lot of laughing and crying.

many brands have done it. but i don’t think i’ve yearned for a compilation cd this bad. the oliver peoples 4 compilation cd. this cd was made to tie in with what oliver peoples had to offer, stylish glasses for the world. it really is what a classy brand should be made of. the compilation is kinda like hotel costes but with more edge, sleek sophisticated style. style is the word to use here. do not belive the words i am typing? see for yourself. www.oliverpeoples.com

out for now.

sweet sweet

June 9, 2006

somehow when the weekend arrives it does not seem so bad. the whole week would just ultimately culminate into these two days of rest and play. the human being has learnt to conform to such a routine. lest they work in the shift work hours. which basically means that their weekends are burnt. and i do not actually mind such a working hour for it seems so much better and time seems to fly by so quickly. or so i think.

the sweet sweet thing about the weekend is actually the time where you plan out how are u gonna spend it. its either u stay at home and laze in that lush bed of yours or you get your ass up and walk the crowded streets and visit that theatre. but most importantly, that potent ingredient to a splendid weekend is the endless amont of cash flow. its either u spend high or spend in budget mode. its always best to do it in high style but the low end stuff can be quite entertaining and more lasting.

so spend your weekend wisely.

hoi hoi! its time to do abit of marketing for the artist in the picture. charlotte martin’s second lp called stromata would be dropping in one day after the memorial day of the 9-11 attacks. do check her out generously if time permits. she is a great artist.

and the routine goes

June 7, 2006

the everyday that passes by has kinda gotten into this droning cycle. the day starts very early due to the traveling and the incessant fear that i might be late in reporting. for i know, the conseqences for such a petty crime is severe to the last core.

the everyday stress that produces inside my head would add up just because of the crowd condition. but once you’ve gotten used to the crowds you move on to complain about the number stops a bus can make in a long distance. if i had actually taken the time out and spent it on counting the number of stops i make every morning before my destination, i would be in shock. whoever thought efficiency cannot be defined should live in singapore. where after every short drive, you stop at a bus-stop.

my job does entail alot but it all depends on the day. there is a graph that can be drawn out if i was an intricate enough “mathman”. which i am not. but somehow, i find my job not fulfilling enough. maybe its because i have not fully settled in yet. but if the beginning of something is doubtful, the ending might be disastrous or peaceful. it is up to me to decide the ending. but i see myself trying my best to make this work. for you should not bite the hand that feeds. and besides, it does not require that much strength or a regime of some sort.

so i’ll try not to complain so much.

renewed sense

under the tagging, of my friend ping, i have decided to oblige in doing the 6 weird facts about me shit. here goes nothing. i still am not sure whether i shall play the role of bad person and “infect” other people with this dash of confession.

here is number 1:
i am the biggest silent worry wart. i like to worry about things that sometimes not worth worrying. and i usually do it in silence.

then there is number 2:
i am not a good “conversationalist”. if ever there is such a word. i try my best.

number 3:
i am obsessive compulsive.

number 4:
i do not like when there are so many people cramped into a bus.

number 5:
i am very happy to have made it to number 5.

last but not least number 6:
when things don’t go my way i never learn how to deal with it.

the end

come to blogging proper. the life has come to a stagnant standstill. the traveling time has made me a very weary person. the job which i will hold for the next 2 years is dull and irrelevant. the new life for the next 2 years i can just see. but there is music in the sadness.
